The Role of Science in NGOs like Relief India Trust

Introduction:

The NGOs like ReliefIndia Trust are not solely dependent on the funds only, but Science also has a great role to play in their infrastructure, development and in the success of their projects. It is a thankless thing really in the NGOs field because most of the management of the NGOs and the working staff doesn’t count it that much as it is something that is supporting them in the background. The idea here is not to give awareness about the importance of science to the NGOs, but the idea is to give them an opportunity to explore the relevance of science and benefit their NGO to the maximum. This thing will eventually help the people, environment or wildlife for which the NGOs are solely working. It is definitely the high time for the NGOs just like Relief India trust who is paying great heed to the development and advancement of Science to be deployed in their own infrastructure.

The Role of Science in NGO:

The development and progress of science has a great role to play in the existence and also the progress of the NGO. The Relief India Trust well believes that the Science along with Technology has great relevance and a critical role to play in the infrastructure development or expansion of the NGO. The logistics and communication of the NGOs is also solely dependent on Science and technology. Further, the delivering of practical innovations and the critical project evaluation is again something to think about seriously.

The NGOs also use science and technology to develop some specialized and sophisticated tools and interventions developed from scientific uses and techniques. Much of the knowledge that is used by NGOs in the development of their projects comes from natural sciences. As an example, you can consider the infectious disease research was possible because of the knowledge of hygiene behaviors. The nutrition guidelines and their natural existence also paved way for the science of micronutrients, fortification and the use of food supplements which are used by many NGOs in their Food and Hunger Relief projects for the deprived or those people who are hit by some sort of natural disaster.

Seeking Evidence for the Use of Science in NGO Development:

It is true that nobody believes in anything unless it is scientifically proven. The main thing to remember here is that the relevance of Science also has some evidence to prove its worth and usefulness in the development of NGOs. The assessment of the effectiveness of the NGOs projects is an integral part in evidence seeking of the relevance of science in the NGO domain. The Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) techniques are used by the NGOs to seek the scientific evidence. The output of M & E techniques are in the form of a report which explains everything about the importance and indulgence of science in the development of the infrastructure of the NGOs. The reports clearly indicate that Science is one big thing in driving the NGOs.
