Introduction:
The success of the ReliefIndia Trust is no secret and every other NGO working in India, look up to
this prestigious not for profit organization in order to make an impact in the
society. The success of the Relief IndiaTrust came at some price and sheer hard work. It took them several years to
reach this status, which they have earned in the eyes of the people they are
working and also the government and the donors who are funding them to properly
implement all their projects. Apart from all the success, there are some really
challenging issues and problems as well, which are giving some really tough
time to the NGO. The progress and the effectiveness of the NGOs are also affected
due to such hindrances. Unfortunately, the problems are ongoing and the best
that any NGO can do about such issues is to control them, but couldn’t
eliminate them fully from their organization due to some unavoidable
circumstances. This is the real challenge which all the large scale and
renowned NGOs face in India.
The basic problems
that the NGOs in India face in common:
There are a number of problems that the NGOs face, commonly
in India. Some are unique and specific to some organizations while some are
consistent in most of the NGOs that you see in the society. The following is a
list of some notable problems that the NGOs face in general in India as
according to the Relief India Trust:
·
Managing the
structural hierarchy of the organization – Many organizations face
structural hierarchy related issues, especially when there are no proper plans
for the implementation of the projects. The NGOs decide on their employees on
project to project basis, which never ensures a defined organizational
structure and the project usually gets in a chaos. The employees with undefined
organizational status don’t know that who is the subordinate and who is the
super-ordinate of a particular employee working in the company.
·
Inconsistency
in Funds – The inconsistency in funds also leads the NGO in a chaos as the
success of their projects is badly affected. The donors promise to give funds,
but sometimes back out at the last minute due to a number of their personal
issues. The need is to get the funds well in advance for the project. The NGOs
shouldn’t initiate any project if they don’t have at least 80 percent of the
funds in their hand.
·
Retaining
Volunteers for longer Period. Volunteers are the most valuable asset of any
company. They have the right motivation which the NGOs require in their
employees and also they work free of cost so there is no burden if the
volunteers are hired in large numbers or regular basis. The problem here is
that the volunteers give their availability over a certain period of time. Most
of them come to work with the NGOs during their vacations which just last for a
few weeks to a couple of months or may be more.
