RELIEF INDIA TRUST CARE FOR THE DISABLED IN SOCIETY

For a majority of us, the idea of moving around and having fun with friends while engaging in many different activities seems quite normal and not deserving of too much appreciation. However, doing all these common things to some is but a dream they cannot have the pleasure of having; the disabled in society. As we go about our lives, we should acknowledge and be appreciative of the things we are capable of doing and at the same time we should be concerned to help out those that don’t have the pleasure of enjoying such simple luxuries.

The Relief India Trust foundation is one that is pillared in assisting those that are disabled in society. The goal of assisting such member in society is one that the organization has had since inception. Over the years, the trust has been able to assist the disabled in the following number of ways;

Independent living
One of the most difficult things that disabled people in society face is the lack of independence. This is due to the fact that most of the disabled people in the society are not really considered when it comes to job applications. As a result, most of the disabled people don’t really have a way of providing for themselves and most of the times end up in the streets begging for money. Relief India Trust has endured so much in trying to eradicate the condition. The trust has set up facilities in which they take care of disabled people that really need medical care and support. The trust has also devised ways of involving the government in allocating funds to those that are in this type of condition.

Infant care
In most cases, disability in the society does not come later in life, but from a very early age. Relief India Trust has taken into consideration the problem and has invested a lot in building facilities that focus on caring for children with disabilities. In these facilities, the children receive specialized medical treatment to improve their situation. The children also receive quality education that they will use in the future to get employed. Through this method, the future of the children living with disability is slowly becoming brighter.

Policy formation
In most cases, people living with disabilities go through normal education systems and compete with other able people in society, but still end up getting unemployed as most employers don’t want to put up with the extra work that comes with making the work environment friendly to the disabled. However, this should not be the case. To tackle this issue, the trust has gotten involved in advanced policy formation to ensure that all employers make their work buildings friendly to those living with disability. On top of this, the trust is also involved in advocating that a percentage of civil jobs offered by the government are set aside for those that are disabled. This is also accompanied with education of the public on how to accept and treat people with disability.
