DISASTER MANAGEMENT UNDERTAKINGS BY RELIEF INDIA TRUST

The amount of disaster incidents across the world today is more than you would want to hear about. Countries on all levels and parts of the continent have been met with heart wrenching disasters that have claimed millions of innocent lives. Due to this, states across the world have invested tremendously in the disaster management sector. The responsibility is one that has also been undertaken by NGO’s across the world. Also, the Relief India Trust has taken its own private measure to ensure that the people of India have a backup plan in conjunction with the government in case of any kind of disaster.

Relief India Trust has undertaken several measures to ensure that they are prepared for any sort of emergency. These measures include;

·         Planning for the worst case scenario for any kind of disaster
·         Investment in the purchasing and stocking of the necessary disaster control equipment
·         Launching of inter-agency coordination formalities
·         Planning evacuation protocols
·         Informing the public on safety measure to undertake in any disaster incidents
·         Training of emergency response staff and teams

Coordination and partnership means
In inter-agency coordination plan, the agency is involved in the following ways;
1.       Exchange information on the best ways to tackle a disaster with other organizations as well as the government. This is a great help in reducing the number of casualties that may come about if the worst is to happen.

2.       The trust and other stakeholders hold joint disaster management exercises to ensure that both sides are well prepared to respond as fast as possible.

3.       The trust also coordinates with the government in the re-registration of citizens in the event that the disaster destroys important family documents such as identity cards. This also helps in the event the family is claiming the insurance funds and other relief fund offered by the government.

Education
The education phase is the most important phase when it comes to disaster management. In this case the organizations and other stakeholders partake together into providing the public with all the information that they may need to save their lives in the event a disaster occurs at any moment. The trust can do this in many ways. These include;

·         Conferences
·         Print media
·         TV stations and Radio Stations

Disaster assessment
This section combines a lot of the measures mentioned previously. In this case, Relief India Trust partakes in the inter-agency training exercises. The trust contributes its staff to go and partake in joint exercises. Also, the trust works hand in hand with the government in terms of locating disasters response facilities across the country.

On the other hand, the facility also deals with ensuring that it involved in the country grid allocation of disaster control equipment. This is to ensure that all parts of the country are equally prepared for the worst. Also, the two sides also coordinate in creating evacuation protocols for the people. This ensures that assessed casualties are minimized as much as possible through a non-conflicting evacuation procedure.

Lastly, the two sides collectively invest in research into disasters so that both sides can adequately assess the foretold damage so that they can plan for earlier evacuations or even invest in other advanced preventive measures.
