Introduction:
The Non Government Organizations are creating great vibes
all across the word as they give deprived and underprivileged people great hope
for a better future. If you have a good look around in the NGOs sector, then
you will find a number of different types of NGOs. According to Relief India Trust, all the different
types of NGOs are operating in different domains in order to rectify a specific
issue existing in our society. The different NGOs may have different
organizational structures which is characterized by their aims and objectives
and the type of challenges that come their way. Broadly speaking, an NGO can be
categorized either by orientation or by the level of operation which we will
discuss in the following sections to come.
NGOs by Orientation:
1.
Charitable
Orientation – It works in the society by a top-down paternalistic approach
with very moderate participation by the beneficiaries of the organization. The
activities of such NGOs are directed more towards the benefits of the poor
people in the society.
2.
Service
Orientation – They perform activities such as the provision of health,
education and family beneficiary programs to help the people in their society.
3.
Participatory
Orientations – It is a self help type of organization as it involves the
local or the needy people to work for their own betterment. Such organizations
help such people by providing them with the necessary cash, materials, tools,
labor and land to get the job done for them.
4.
Empowering
Orientation - Such organizations empower the particular groups of deprived
people with their due rights and support them as how they can get the rights
which are their birth rights.
NGOS by Level of
Operation:
The Relief India
Trust tells about the following types of NGOs which are categorized by
level of operation:
1.
Community
Based Organizations – The CBOs come into existence through the initiative
taken by the people of the community. They work to literate the urban and the
privileged people in the society about the miseries and the sufferings of the
poor. Such efforts in return help them to generate funds and other services to
help a particular group of underprivileged people.
2.
City-wide
Organization – Such organizations are typically based on ethnic groups,
business and commerce coalitions.
3.
National
NGOs – The national NGOs work on a much larger scale and usually have some
city or maybe state branches in order to help and support the other small NGOs
with the material and resources that they need. They have great relevance and
acceptance throughout the country where they operate.
4.
International
NGOs – They may include the secular organizations to all the religiously
motivated organizations. They are very influential as they work on a very large
scale. They help several national and local NGOs in different countries with
